Questions

Why include questions?

Questions serve two purposes:

• Assessment: Check that members understand the material
• Scoring: Generate a score for each member that determines if they pass the course

Questions can be placed anywhere in a module — at the end to test everything, or embedded throughout for regular check-ins.

Two types of questions

You can create two kinds of questions:

Multiple choice

Members pick one or more correct answers from options you provide. These are auto-graded instantly — correct answer, wrong answer, or full feedback. You decide how many attempts members get.

Free text

Members type out their own answer. You read and grade these manually — there's no auto-grading. This is useful for essays, short answers, and subjective responses.

Creating a question in the editor

Go to the Questions tab in the course editor. Click + New Question to add one.

2. 2Write the question text (e.g., "What is the capital of France?")
3. 3For multiple choice, add answer options and mark the correct one(s)
4. 4Add points (how much this question is worth toward the final score)
5. 5Optionally add explanation text that appears after the member answers
6. 6Click Save

Multiple choice options

When creating a multiple choice question:

• Add as many answer options as you need (typically 3–5)
• Mark one or more as correct (toggle the checkmark)
• Shuffle the options so the correct answer isn't always in the same position
• Add explanation text for each option (e.g., "This is correct because…" or "This is close, but…")

Question difficulty and tags

Optionally tag each question with a difficulty level (easy, medium, hard) or topic. These tags help you organize questions and analyze which topics members struggle with.

Question feedback

For multiple choice questions, you can provide feedback for each answer:

• Correct answer: "Great! Here's why this is correct…"
• Incorrect answers: "Not quite. Consider that…" — helps members learn from mistakes

Members see this feedback immediately after answering, which reinforces learning.

Question randomization

To prevent cheating, you can randomize:

• The order of answer options for each question
• The order of questions themselves (so each member sees them in a different order)

Enable these settings in the Grading tab.

Bulk importing questions

If you have a lot of questions, import them from a spreadsheet instead of typing each one:

2. 2Download the template CSV/Excel file
3. 3Fill in your questions following the template format
4. 4Upload the file
5. 5Review the imported questions and make adjustments as needed
6. 6Click Confirm Import

Question settings and points

Each question has settings you can customize:

• Points: How many points this question is worth (e.g., 1 point, 5 points). Used to calculate the final score.
• Required: Whether members must answer this question to continue
• Show explanation: Whether to show feedback after answering
• Time limit: If set, members have only this much time to answer (e.g., 2 minutes)

Reusing questions across courses

You can copy questions from one course to another. Click the question, then Duplicate to Another Course. Select the destination course and confirm.

Deleting or editing questions

Hover over a question in the list and click the menu button to edit or delete it. If you edit a question after publishing the course:

• Members who haven't answered it yet see the updated version
• Members who already answered it are unaffected — their responses and scores stay the same

Question banks and reusability

My1Service doesn't have formal "question banks" yet, but you can duplicate questions or entire question sets across courses using the menu options. It's a simple way to reuse well-crafted questions.

Grading free text questions

Free text questions must be graded manually. See Grading for the full workflow.

Question analytics

After the course is published and members start taking it, you can see analytics on each question:

• How many members answered it correctly vs. incorrectly
• Average score for that question
• Which answers members pick most often (spot wrong patterns)

Use this data to identify confusing or poorly-worded questions and refine them.
