Course Editor

The interface where you build and manage course content. Five tabs, how autosave works, and what happens to your drafts.

Opening the course editor

Click Courses from your dashboard. Find the course you want to edit (or create a new one), and click it to open the editor.

The editor opens with five tabs across the top, each controlling a different aspect of the course.

The five tabs

All course settings and content are organized into these tabs:

1. Overview

Course metadata — title, description, thumbnail image, and basic settings. This is what appears in the catalog and on the course listing. Start here when creating a new course.

2. Modules & Content

Where you add modules and content. Upload videos, slides, text, and documents. Organize modules in order. See Modules & Content for details.

3. Questions

Create or import quiz questions. Write multiple-choice and free-text questions, set correct answers, and assign points. You can also bulk import from a spreadsheet. See Questions.

4. Grading

Configure how the course is graded. Set the pass mark, decide if members can see results immediately or only after you approve, and enable retakes. See Grading.

5. Publishing

Decide who can see and take the course. Publish to everyone, to specific people, or keep it as a draft while you work. See Publishing.

Navigating between tabs

Click any tab to move to it. Your changes in one tab are saved automatically (see "Autosave" below), so you can navigate freely without losing work.

Autosave and drafts

The editor saves your work automatically in the background — you don't need to click a save button. Every change (adding a title, uploading a video, writing a question) is saved immediately to my1Service's servers.

The course exists in one of two states:

  • Draft: You're still working on it. No one can see it yet (unless you specifically publish it to them). Drafts are saved locally and to our servers.
  • Published: It's live. Members can find it in the catalog or you've invited specific people. Published courses can still be edited — changes take effect immediately.
Drafts are safe
There's no "unsafe" state in My1Service. Everything is auto-saved, including incomplete courses. If you close the browser, your draft is still there when you come back.

The local draft safety net

Sometimes you might make changes and then reload the page or your browser crashes. My1Service keeps a local draft on your computer as a safety net. If the page detects that your local draft is newer than what's on the server, it prompts you to restore it. This rarely happens, but it's there to protect your work.

Viewing a live course while editing

You can test your course before publishing. At the top of the editor, click Preview Course to see it exactly as members will see it — minus any grading or scoring details.

Course versioning

There's only one version of each course at a time. If you publish a course and then edit it, members see the updated version immediately. If you want to maintain an old version and create a new one, use the duplicate feature on the course list to create a separate course.

Time spent in the editor

The editor automatically logs out after 24 hours of inactivity. If you're working on a course and leave for a while, your session might expire. You'll be asked to sign in again, but all your work is saved — you just need to open the course again to continue.

Collaboration and co-authoring

You can invite other instructors to co-author courses with you. Go to the Collaborators section in the Overview tab to add them. They can edit everything you can, including content and grading. Multiple authors can edit the same course at the same time — changes sync in real-time.

No edit conflicts
My1Service's editor is designed to handle multiple people editing at once. If two people change the same thing, the last edit wins and you see who changed what.

Keyboard shortcuts

In the editor, you can use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work:

  • Ctrl+S (or Cmd+S) — Save (although autosave is on, this is a good habit)
  • Ctrl+Z — Undo
  • Ctrl+Shift+Z — Redo

Going back to the course list

When you're done editing, click the back arrow or click Courses in the left sidebar. You return to the course list and any unsaved changes are auto-saved.
